The Sumernet's first literature analysis "Challenges to sustainable Development in the Mekong Delta: Regional and National Policy Issues and Research Needs" was officially launched in Hanoi, Vietnam on 31 January 2008, as a side event of the M-POWER (Mekong Program on Water Environment & Resilience) Annual Partners' Meeting. The publications and the policy brief were distributed to about 80 participants.

 


During 12-14 December 2007, Sumernet held the first face-to-face training under its Capacity Building component titled “EffectiveCommunications–Skills for writing, presenting, and communicating Sumernet research to policy makers” at Sasa International House, Bangkok, Thailand.

 


Sumernet’s Capacity Building Programme aims to improve research skills and facilitate coordinated collective research amongst the partners. Based on the capacity building needs of partners, the Sumernet Secretariat is providing a training workshop:

Migration update for policy makers


Muanpong Juntopas, a Sumernet Network Development Coordinator will be attending a workshop on “Trans-boundary Migration Policy Implementation and Monitoring in the GMS: the Effectiveness and Policy Gaps” , organized by Mekong Institute, during 15-17 November 2007 in Thailand.

 


 


Thai-Swedish Collaboration for Water Research

On the 31st October 2007 a ceremony was held signifying forthcoming collaboration between the Royal Thai Government’s Hydro Agro Informatics Institute (HAII), and the Network for Integrated Transboundary Water Research (NITWAR), an international network hosted by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU).

Bangkok - The European Union (EU) needs to establish strong cooperation with Asian countries over climate change in capacity building, promotion of green fuel and technologies, information dissemination and research on appropriate policy mechanisms. This was stated by Anders Wijkman, Member of European Parliament, at a special lecture organized jointly by Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) and Chulalongkorn University 's Centre of European Studies (CES) and MSc Programme in Environment and Natural Resources.
