The Lee Schipper Memorial Scholarship is now seeking
applicants to innovate for sustainable transport. Lee was a
founder of EMBARQ and dedicated his professional life to
the efficient use of energy in mobility. An astrophysicist and
a studied musician, Lee was an iconoclast in the field of
energy efficiency.

At a workshop held in Bangkok on the 22nd and 23rd of
November, organised by the SUMERNET Secretariat in SEI
Asia, researchers from the Sustainable Mekong Research
Network (SUMERNET) took advantage of a rare opportunity
to engage with high level policy makers and regional
journalists about how to make their research more useful
and accessible to policy makers and the public.

The Asian Management and Development Institute (AMDI),
Hanoi is pleased to announce the Call for Proposals to the
2012 University of Nairobi-IDRC Research Grants on
Innovative Application of ICTs in Addressing Water-related
Impacts of Climate Change.

The Asia Pacific Scholarship Consortium APSC supports
students from Burma, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand to
pursue Masters level studies in Hong Kong, the
Philippines, Thailand, and Malaysia.

SEI Asia is hosting two three-day sessions to support
co-authors of a major book on livelihoods, ecosystem
services and the challenges of regional integration,
forthcoming in 2013.

SEI and SUMERNET researchers engaged in lively discussions
at a July 26-27 conference on the challenges and opportunities
ahead for Southeast Asia.

The Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) Asia chaired two
panels at the second International Conference on International
Relations and Development (ICIRD) held at Chiang Mai University
in Thailand, from the 26th to the 27th of July 2012.

We would like to send our congratulations to Mr. Winston,
our Sumernet research partner who is engaged in the
contract farming project, and has recently been appointed
as the HE Deputy of the Minister of National Planning and
Economic Development, Myanmar.
