Variya Plungwatana is a Communications Assistant at SEI Asia. She joined SEI in April 2021. She provides communications support for Centre, Centre Director and Cluster communications in line with the SEI Asia strategy. She also supports content dissemination of key SEI research and activities and supports outreach for the SUMERNET programme.
Variya is a graduate of the Faculty of Arts at Chulalongkorn University (French and English). Prior to joining SEI, Variya was Assistant Manager at The Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Thailand (FCCT). Her responsibilities included liaison with media along with undertaking a variety of communications, managerial and administrative tasks. Apart from multimedia and social media skills, she is capable of event-planning and public relations and has experience in editing the FCCT website and producing their weekly bulletin.
She has expertise in translation and has worked as a news translator previously. In 2018, she was a trainee at the Embassy of Belgium in Bangkok as a consular staff.
Variya is a music enthusiast and she enjoys keeping up with the political news and loves reading books and listening to podcasts.
SUMERNET's climate short film, The Last Drop, will be screened at this year's CCCL Film Festival.
