Shaara Ainsley

Shaara Ainsley is a fisheries biologist with over a decade of research experience in California, Alaska, Southeast Asia, and Central America. Her responsibilities include project management, study design, data management and analysis, report writing and editing, and grant writing. She provides scientific advising for Central Valley clients on issues related to ESA-listed fish species in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, including delta smelt and salmonids. She participates each month in the Delta Smelt Scoping Team of the Collaborative Science and Adaptive Management Program. Shaara also helps coordinate FISHBIO’s International program, including liaising with FISHBIO Lao’s Country Director, and coordinating activities related to the design, implementation, and reporting of fisheries projects in Southeast Asia.

Shaara’s current role is focused on improving engagement with scientific collaborators to build mutually beneficial and effective research partnerships both in the Central Valley and internationally. She holds a master’s degree in marine science with a focus in ichthyology from Moss Landing Marine Laboratories, where her research focused on life history characteristics of fishes (age, growth, and age at reproduction).
