Dr. Phouthavong worked at the Living Aquatic Resources Research Center (LARReC) under National Agriculture Forestry Research Institute as a researcher during 2015-2016 and as the Director from 2017-2020, and was promoted to Deputy Director General of the Department of Livestock and Fisheries from October 2020 to up to now. His duties are supervising and overseeing the research activities, namely fisheries monitoring and impact assessment, habitat restoration and conservation of fisheries resources caused by climate change, and fish passage research in the irrigation and hydropower dam.
In addition, he is also a member of the National Steering Committee on the food and nutrition security program supported by the European Union. I am also supervising Women Union in the Department of Livestock and Fisheries.
He has experience working with many international and regional supported projects (FAO, ACIAR, MRC, JICA, World Bank, HAKI-Hungary, USAID, SUMERNET, and NACA) in the field of research, assessment, monitoring, and management of fisheries and aquaculture.
