Upcoming grants for COVID-19 and water insecurity research in the Mekong Region

In the coming weeks, SUMERNET will be launching two competitive calls for rapid response /emerging research grants for reducing water insecurities for the poor, marginalized and socially vulnerable groups of women and men in the Mekong Region.

Successful research projects need to be completed within 6-12 months:

1. Special call for emerging research on “Reducing water insecurities of the marginalized and most vulnerable in the Mekong Region during COVID-19 crises”: the research project will engage with marginalized and most vulnerable groups to understand their water insecurity issues due to the COVID-19 crises. The project will work with policy makers, planners or practitioners to understand current policies, plans or practices relevant to the research in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.

Total funds available: 1,500,000 SEK (approximately US$159,000) for one research project.

2. Call for rapid response research that will provide evidence directly contributing to ongoing planning or decision making processes at national or regional levels: Any evidence on the need for rapid response research from target users of future research findings could be provided along with the application will be at an advantage. Successful research project(s) will address challenges related to water insecurity in the Mekong Region.

Total funds available: 400,000 SEK (approximately US$42,000) per award. Not more than two awards will be offered in this round. 

SUMERNET network members and partners are encouraged to form teams to submit applications for these two upcoming calls. More information about these calls including submission guidelines and other details will be announced in the coming weeks.
