Introduction
The Mekong Region is currently facing multiple environmental problems such as air and water pollution, deforestation, soil erosion, the overexploitation of coastal resources, ecosystems and biodiversity degradation, and pollution from domestic waste. These environmental challenges, along with climate change and sea level rise, are undermining the sustainability of the environment and socio-economic development of the region. Further delaying SDG targets.
Communication about environmental issues is an effective way to raise awareness about these concerns to the general public, in turn, garnering their support, which could increase pressure for policy changes. Young professionals are in a unique position, as they are at the start of their careers and thus possess a growing level of knowledge, capacity, as well as an understanding of the cultural, social and political landscapes. Young people offer fresh perspectives and creative insights in communicating environmental topics. Young people are also able to communicate effectively across generations, from youth groups to other young professionals, and senior people in research, media and policy.
