My Le joined SEI Asia in March 2024 as a fellow with the Mekong Thought Leadership and Think Tanks Network (MTT) program. She will be part of the SEI Asia comms team supporting Mekong regional media with a special focus on the MTT and the SUMERNET programs, and in particular, working with youth in the SUMERNET Young Professionals (SYP).
My Le has previous experience with SEI through the Media-Research Partnership grant provided by SUMERNET where she built the capacity of researchers in media interviews and produced environmental stories about the Mekong Delta.
My Le is an environmental reporter who is proficient at using complex data and unpacking scientific findings, which she humorously calls the art of “simplifying the complex”. She is the main contributor to the science/environment columns of Tuoi Tre Weekly, a reputed newspaper in Vietnam.
My Le started her journalism career as a broadcaster for Vietnam Television and then gained further experience with project development in civil society organizations. During 2017-2019, she developed two science projects at the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit. My also received intensive debate training in London (UK) that helped initiate science debate clubs in 9 high schools and 3 universities in Vietnam, some of which remain active and have won debating championships. In 2018-2020, she founded a tea-themed youth hub in Saigon for young people to get together and be creative. She used to collaborate with forest professionals, striving to strike a harmonious balance between human prosperity and environmental preservation.
At the time of the COVID pandemic, My Le began to focus more of her writing on Mekong topics. She sharpened her skills and methods in environment reporting thanks to the French-funded program “Mekong: Sustainable News” and its Training of Trainers course.
Today, she is dedicated to crafting explanatory solution-driven journalism that empowers individuals to make informed choices. Her heart beats for the Mekong, a breathtaking region that has been feeding her (literally). She is committed to safeguarding its beauty in the face of climate change challenges.
Produced by the SUMERNET media-research partnership fund, this article mentions the environmental impacts and potential challenges on the residents of U Minh Thuong’s buffer zone, Kien Giang province, Vietnam.
Researchers can provide evidence-based insights that can inform policy decisions. However, researchers need to go the extra mile to achieve policy impacts.
Reflections on how to effectively nurture a regional transboundary alliance, a vision that SUMERNET is determined to realize as it continues its work in the Mekong Region.
